Strand ELECTRIC Spotlight Mk1 Patt 23 Baby Profile

£185.00

This iconic example of British design was made The Strand Lighting Company in their Covent Garden works in London’s West End.
The Patt 23 profile spotlight – also known as the ‘Baby Spot’ was the one of the work horses of the theatre industry from the late 50’s to the 1980’s. Commercially they were also very successful – 20,000 sold in the four years following it’s launch in 1954.

Regrettably most have now been lost or destroyed and the survivors represent rare examples of an original British Industrial Design classic.

Strand lanterns were very solidly constructed and built to last. In the 1958 Strand catalogue they retailed at £10 7 shillings and 6 (old)pence These original lanterns were not painted and did not have the shutter pack that was added in the mid 60’s. Beam shaping masks could be inserted into the slot at the front of the lamp housing to adjust the shape of the beam.
