Fully Reconditioned Theatre Lantern
Manufactured by WJ Furse in their Traffic Street works in Nottingham from in the 1960’s and 1970’s
We have a pair of these classic oval fresnel spotlights beautifully recoated in silver chrome.
The SFR is a well engineered lantern with a rolled steel ventilated body, with a fixed 4” (200mm) fresnel lens built into the front of the body. The lanterns have 360o rotation, and over 90o of tilt movement. It was used mainly in schools and small theatres.
The lanterns have been rewired to take a domestic Edison Screw lamp and have been fitted with over 6ft (1800mm) of silver cloth covered cable with in-line switch and moulded plug. They have been tested for electrical safety and will be supplied with a certificate of compliance.
The SFR is a fresnel spotlight and gives a wide soft edged beam for highlighting walls or ceilings. Colour filters can be added in a frame fitted to the runners at the front to create mood lighting.
The lanterns can be supplied with either wooden base stand or a handmade wooden tripod stad, both can be seen in the photo’s on the left.

Focussing – moving lamp tray with 75mm reflector operated by adjustable in bottom of lantern body.
Lens – 100mm Fresnel with double colour runners set into front of body
